1. any one of several kinds of wild ducks of fresh waters. A widgeon is slightly larger than a teal. The baldpate is a common American species.
2. Obsolete. a simpleton; ninny (applied to a person in allusion to the supposed stupidity of the bird). Also, wigeon.
